KB ELECTRONICS

KB Controls are better. Here's why...

1. YOUR MOTORS WILL LAST LONGER WITH KB CONTROLS.

Most motors today are of the permanent magnet type. Under certain conditions the magnets in these motors can become demagnetized. Demagnetization does not occur instantly but is cumulative with time. This results in a loss of speed and efficiency at rated torque.

To eliminate this potential problem, KB's engineering staff designed and patented the fastest current limit circuit available. It is a high-speed, direct-fed, anti demagnetization circuit. Your motor will not become demagnetized when using a Penta-Power product.

2. REDUCE PRODUCTION COSTS WITH KB CONTROLS.

KB's Automatic Calibrating Plug-in Horsepower Resistor can eliminate the need to calibrate the current limit and IR Comp trimpots. Accurate setting of these trimpots is required for safe, reliable and repeatable performance. Each and every KB control is factory calibrated so that when the proper Plug-in Horsepower Resistor is utilized, the control is automatically calibrated ... no adjustments are required.

KB's Plug-in Horsepower Resistor is similar to a fuse. You select the right size fuse to provide maximum protection. Likewise you choose the right size Plug-in Horsepower Resistor for maximum motor protection. Competitors offer one control (maximum rating 1 Hp) and ask you to calibrate the IR and CL circuits for proper operation. KB has eliminated the need to have you calibrate the control for proper operation and motor protection.

If you have multiple applications with various horsepower motor ranges, it is unnecessary to inventory a large assortment of controls. One control with inexpensive Plug-in Horsepower Resistors will solve your needs and reduce your inventory.

Many of KB's more sophisticated controls, such as their NEMA IV and Regenerative Drives, use Quick Jumps to select proper horsepower or current settings also eliminating the need to adjust the IR and CL.

This means reduced production cost since you can eliminate calibrating each and every control on the production line. The dangers of not having a properly calibrated control are as follows:

FEATURE SETTING FUNCTIONS BENEFITS
IR Comp Low Poor load regulation Low product performance
IR Comp High Unstable operation and surging Low product performance
Current limit Low Loss of torque Low product performance
Current limit High Shortened motor life Possible motor damage

If some tune-up is necessary, KB provides custom designed trimpot knobs which are easy to use. These knobs protect the top of the trimpots from grounding.

3. YOUR PRODUCT WILL HAVE BETTER ACCURACY WITH KB CONTROLS.

KB uses high grade cermet trimpots and temperature stable components. What this means is that, with variations in temperature and humidity, your product's performance will not change. Repeatability and stability are assured. In addition, many of KB's controls contain the option of tachometer feedback. This allows you, if required, to obtain the ultimate in accuracy without paying extra for it. This is a no-charge feature from KB.

4. EXTEND MOTOR BRUSH LIFE WITH PENTA-POWER CONTROLS

If your product requires rapid and frequent cycling (or is susceptible to occasional jam ups), you need KB Penta-Power products which feature their patented CURRENT LIMIT or CURRENT LOOP circuits. KB has developed the fastest current limiting circuits of any SCR or PWM controls available today. What this means to you is less motor maintenance due to worn brushes. Inrush current is held to a safe level, while severe arcing on the brushes is all but eliminated.

5. PENTA-POWER PRODUCTS LAST LONGER WITH BUILT-IN PATENTED CURRENT LIMIT OR CURRENT LOOP CONTROLS.

A. Short Circuit Protection. If a motor fails, it will not take the control with it. The patented current limit circuit, combined with rugged 25 Amp rated semiconductors and built-in fuses, make the KB Penta-Power products almost indestructible.

KB controls contain an exclusive anti-surge circuit called Auto Inhibit. This circuit allows you to cycle the control on and off using the AC line. Your equipment will always start smoothly, eliminating stress and strain on gearing, chains and other moving parts. With some competitor's controls, you must wait between 5 and 10 seconds after turning off the AC power before you restart the control or severe surging will occur. With KB controls you end up with fewer service calls.

B. Electrically and mechanically, a worry-free choice. Penta-Power products, with the built-in KBMM control, have set the standards by which all others will follow. Here's why:

  1. Only the finest glass encapsulated, epoxy coated diodes are used. The products are further protected with the combination of a 45 joule MOV transient suppressor and an across-the-line capacitor. No failures because of weak links.
  2. Rigorous incoming QC inspection for SCR's, Diodes, Semiconductors and Capacitors reduces the possibility of premature component failures.
  3. On-line computer testing and final power testing are performed on each and every control before it leaves KB. This means your controls work every time out of the box.

c. Heavy Gauge Heatsink. Sound mechanical and thermal engineering help to make the Penta-Power products electrically reliable. Compare, by weight or thickness or both, KB's extra heavy gauge extruded heatsink with their competitors' heatsinks.

Some of the competition use a stamped and formed heatsink which restricts the heat flow, especially at the bend. Others use a thinner extrusion with an assembly slot that restricts the heat flow from the power bridge to the rest of the heatsink. For this reason, KB controls will run cooler. With KB controls you get a greater safety factor and longer life than the competition when used at the same load current. The design also gives KB the ability to increase the control rating beyond what the competitors can offer and still maintain a high degree of safety factor.

6. MOTOR COGGING IS OBSOLETE WITH PENTA-POWER PRODUCTS.

Your machine will run smoother with KB controls. KB's custom designed pulse transformer technique of isolating the SCR Gate Control Circuit from the SCR's, permits very low speed operation without motor cogging.
